  • In this tutorial you will learn how to create a 3D poster using cinema4D and Photoshop. The 3D file created with cinema4D is included in the resources folder for people who don’t have cinema4D and only want to make the Photoshop part.

    Step 1

Open your version of cinema 4d. I use for this work fonts like, helvetica, reboard, typograph pro and wanted m54. Now, go to mograph>motext and choose typograph pro font. Type your text and follow the settings as shown in the image.

Go to mograph>motext again. Type the word you wish and drag into the box object as shown in the image. Position the text slightly ahead of the object as shown. Use right side view if you need. Now place the text below the cube object and use boole tool to create a text hole in our cube object. Use the image as reference to guide you again. Then drag both (cube and text) into the boole tool. Cinema 4D call this (children).

    Step 7

This tutorial is not about MODELING. So, all 3d models (football field, psp,PS3…)   are available as obj file. All you need to do is open you obj file with your favorite 3d software and place them in your work as you wish. They’re all available with this tutorial for download.

This is my final scene as shown in the image. Now we need to add some colors with materials, finish and export to photoshop. Double-click on your material to open material editor. Play with colors, reflections, textures what else you want. Then drag and drop your material on your object in the Layers panel, as shown. Repeat the same process to color your entire scene.

    Step 8

I use GSG ligh kit pro for lighting my scene. If you don’t have GSG light kit you can use C4D lights as infinite light and light. Finally, let’s edit render settings. Just follows the settings as shown then render as picture viewer. 3D finished, let’s go to photoshop.

    Step 9

Open photoshop and create 3000×3000 with 72dpi new document. Use alpha channel to cut off. Drag your 3d scene into the new document. I use a premade image as my background, just drag it into the scene and use Ctrl+M and Ctrl+U to correct curves and hue saturation. Click on mask icon, with a soft brush with black color and 25% opacity, mask some areas in your background as shown. Create a new layer below the background layer and add a gradient radial with white and soft gray colors. Click in the middle of the document and drag up to add the gradient.

    Step 10

Create a new layer below your main scene. With a soft round brush, black color and 1500-1700 size, click in the middle. Use Ctrl+T to resize and change the perspective. Mask some areas with layer mask or erase with eraser tool (E). This will simulate the main object shadows. Layer opacity about 50% works well.

    Step 11

Time  to add some images. You can use any image, but if you want to use mine, they are already cut and ready for use. I used rappers, players, icons, heroes, splatters, trees, cities…use as you wish. If you want you can use my image as reference. I made some shadows and color correction with adjustment layers to match the pictures with the main scene. Use adjustment layers icon in the layers panel and make the necessary changes. As you can see I put some images below and others above the main scene.

    Step 12

Now it’s time to add some lights effects. I always like to use a nice tip. With a soft round brush 500px size and white color, just click one time in your document. Then add a new layer with the same brush but now double size 1000px and choose your color. I like use orange, dark green, pink…then change the layer mode to hard light, screen, lighten or linear dodge.

Now Ctrl+e and merge both together, then I use again hard light, or screen or linear dodge. Before this, I just copy this light layer and Ctrl+T to warp this light. I just warp and warp to found my better light effect. Then I place these lights in my scene.

    Step 13

I use a light effects stock image to add more lights. I just change layers mode to screen and then  with layer mask just hide some areas.

    Step 14

Create a new layer above all other layers, then use blue Color to Transparent in order to put blue color at the top. Change the layer mode to soft light with 85%.

    Step 15

I just make some final touches not important. And it’s done. Save the PSD file and flatten images if you want. Then add some sharpen and adjust curves. That’s all.
